The short version

This site sets one cookie of its own, and only after you ask for your report: a short-lived key that lets you open your detailed breakdown. It also loads two third-party tools that set their own: Google Analytics, to understand how the site is used, and a Basis advertising tag, to measure whether our online advertising leads to enquiries. Both run unless you opt out, and you can opt out of either at any time below. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the advertising tag stays off.

What we store in your browser ourselves

One cookie, va_result, set only when you ask for your report or request a discussion. It holds an encrypted key that opens the detailed breakdown of your estimate. It is unreadable by scripts on the page, sent to us only when you open that breakdown, never shared with anyone else, and expires after 30 minutes. It is strictly necessary to show you the page you asked for, so it is not covered by the choices below.

Two items in your browser’s local storage, va-consent and va-ad-consent, each holding the word “granted” or “denied”. They record your own choices about analytics and advertising. They contain no identifier, are never sent to us or to anyone else, and remain on your device until you clear your browser storage. Storing a record of your choice is what lets us honour it.

One item in your browser’s session storage, va-attribution. If you arrived from a link carrying campaign tags (for example one of our advertisements), it records those tags, the page you landed on, and the site that linked you. It is sent to us only if you ask for your report or request a discussion, so we know which campaign brought the enquiry, and it is deleted when you close the tab.

Analytics cookies

We load Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager to understand how the site and calculator are used, for example which steps people complete and where they stop. Google sets its own cookies, typically _ga and a container-specific _ga_… cookie, which distinguish one browser from another and ordinarily persist for up to two years. If you opt out, no further analytics data is collected in that browser.

We deliberately do not send analytics your financial inputs, your valuation figures, or your contact details. Analytics receives usage signals only.

Advertising

We advertise this site on other websites through Basis, an advertising platform. To measure whether that advertising works, pages on this site load a Basis tag that records visits and whether a visitor went on to request a report or a discussion. Basis and its delivery partner (SiteScout) may set or read cookies in your browser to do this, and may use what they record to show our advertisements to people who have visited this site.

We never send this tag your financial inputs, your valuation figures, or your contact details. Under some US state privacy laws, letting an advertising platform collect information about visits in this way can count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information. You can opt out below, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as that opt-out automatically.
